Technical Note #2 - Effect of Temperature

Fortis coatings have been designed so they may be used anywhere in Australia throughout the year. However, due to the variety of climatic conditions it is best to following the application guidelines.

The drying of Coatings are influenced by:

  1. Temperature
  2. Humidity
  3. Airflow
  4. Film Thickness
  5. whether 2k or single pack

The recommended application window for 1‐Pack Moisture Curing Polyurethane is approx. 12‐35℃ and 40‐80% relative humidity. With an optimum of 25℃ and 60% relative humidity.

A significant drop of application temperature slows down the drying and curing process of the applied coating. The temperature during winter is often below 12℃ especially in the morning and late afternoon.

Note: Temperature on the floor can be significantly lower than the surrounding air temperature and the temperature of the coating material stored in a van overnight can be extremely low.

As such the coating will perform differently. It is best to working within the recommended application temperature. If you need to apply under serve adverse conditions, please contact technical for advice
