Fortis 823 Prime is a fast-curing epoxy floor primer for concrete floors where rapid recoating and efficient project turnaround are important. It penetrates prepared concrete to promote adhesion before high-build epoxy coatings and decorative flake flooring systems.
Information | Applications | Specifications | Downloads | FAQs
Fortis 823 Prime is a two-component solvent-based epoxy primer formulated for excellent penetration and wetting of porous concrete before application of compatible epoxy flooring systems.
Its penetrating formulation helps consolidate prepared concrete and creates a strong bonding surface for subsequent coatings. Fast film cure allows flooring systems to progress efficiently, while good low-temperature curing characteristics provide additional flexibility under cooler application conditions.
823 Prime is particularly suited beneath Fortis Coat 823 HS and decorative flake flooring systems in warehouses, factories, workshops, garages and commercial or industrial floors.
Porous or highly absorbent concrete may require additional wet-on-wet primer application to achieve a uniformly sealed surface. Correct mechanical preparation remains essential for reliable adhesion and long-term coating performance.
For poor, difficult or suitably prepared slightly damp concrete where maximum adhesion and substrate consolidation are the priority, consider Fortis 820 Prime. Where rising damp or significant moisture transmission is present, use an appropriate HydroFort™ epoxy vapour barrier.

Typical Applications
Fortis 823 Prime is designed for priming concrete before epoxy flooring in warehouses, factories, workshops, garages, manufacturing facilities and commercial or industrial floors. It is particularly suited to high-build epoxy and decorative flake systems where rapid recoating is important.
Application
Apply Fortis 823 Prime to clean, sound and mechanically prepared concrete using a roller. Suitable airless spray equipment may also be used where appropriate.
Thoroughly mix or shake Parts A and B before measuring. Combine 1 Part Resin (Part A) with 1 Part Hardener (Part B) by volume and mix at low speed using a Jiffy-style mechanical mixer until smooth and homogeneous.
Ensure material from the sides and bottom of the container is incorporated. Mix for approximately one minute, allow the material to stand for one minute, then mix for approximately one additional minute.
Mix only enough material for immediate use. Pour the mixed primer onto the prepared floor in ribbons and distribute evenly using a 5–8 mm nap microfibre roller.
Porous or highly absorbent concrete may require additional wet-on-wet application to achieve a uniformly primed surface. Refer to the current Fortis 823 Prime Technical Data Sheet for complete coverage and recoating requirements.
Suitable Surfaces
Fortis 823 Prime is suitable for mechanically prepared concrete, porous cementitious substrates and compatible existing coating systems requiring a penetrating epoxy primer before subsequent flooring.
Concrete must be clean, sound and free from dust, laitance, loose material, oil, grease, curing compounds and other contaminants that may affect adhesion. Diamond grinding is the preferred preparation method because it removes weak surface material and provides a suitable profile for coating adhesion.
New concrete should normally be cured for at least 28 days before coating.
Existing compatible coatings must be firmly bonded, cleaned and mechanically abraded. Test adhesion on a small area before proceeding.
For poor, difficult or suitably prepared slightly damp concrete, Fortis 820 Prime may be more appropriate. Where rising damp or significant moisture transmission is present, investigate the substrate and use an appropriate HydroFort™ epoxy vapour barrier where required.
8 L and 40 L kits
823 Prime is a fast-curing solvent-based epoxy primer designed to penetrate prepared concrete and promote adhesion of subsequent epoxy floor coatings.
It penetrates porous concrete, improves substrate wetting and provides a strong bonding surface while allowing rapid recoating.
823 Prime is suitable beneath compatible Fortis epoxy systems including Coat 823 HS and decorative flake flooring systems.
823 Prime is designed for fast cure, penetration and rapid recoating. 820 Prime is preferred where high adhesion, substrate consolidation or tolerance of suitably prepared slightly damp concrete is required.
Mix 1 Part A with 1 Part B by volume using a low-speed mechanical mixer until homogeneous.
Yes. Porous substrates may require additional wet-on-wet application to achieve a uniformly primed surface.
