Water-based and solvent-based acrylic sealers both form a protective film over concrete, but they differ in odour, appearance, application and clean-up. Choosing the right system depends on the substrate, location and finish required.
Water-based acrylic sealers are well suited where lower odour and easier clean-up are important. ConcreteShield™ AcrylaSeal dries clear with a semi-gloss finish and is suitable for driveways, pavers, exposed aggregate, coloured and decorative concrete.
Solvent-based acrylic sealers generally provide stronger colour enhancement and the traditional appearance associated with sealed decorative concrete. AcrylaSolv™ is designed for dry concrete, driveways, paving, exposed aggregate and decorative concrete.
Choose AcrylaSeal where a water-based, lower-odour system is preferred. Choose AcrylaSolv where stronger colour enhancement and a solvent-based finish are required. Always test a small area first, as porosity and concrete colour influence the final appearance.
Concrete must be clean, sound and within the moisture requirements of the selected sealer. Trapped moisture can cause whitening or clouding, while excessive film build or pooling can affect appearance and performance.
Sealed concrete may become more slippery, particularly when wet. Where additional grip is required, consider Fortis Non-Slip Additive.
