Fortis Antique Blue Concrete Acid Stain is a reactive, penetrating stain designed to create permanent, variegated colour effects in new and existing concrete.
Unlike conventional coatings that form a film on the surface, Fortis Acid Stain penetrates the concrete and chemically reacts with minerals within the surface. This reaction produces natural variations in colour, tone and pattern that become part of the concrete itself.
Antique Blue creates distinctive blue-green and aged patina-style tones suitable for decorative concrete where a natural, mottled appearance is desired. Because the final colour is created by a chemical reaction, every concrete surface will produce slightly different results depending on its composition, age, finishing method and porosity.
Suitable for interior and exterior applications, Fortis Antique Blue Concrete Acid Stain can be used on residential and commercial floors, patios, pathways, entertaining areas and other decorative concrete surfaces.
Once the reaction is complete, the surface is neutralised and thoroughly cleaned before applying a suitable Fortis concrete sealer.

Concrete must be a minimum of 14 days old before applying Fortis Concrete Acid Stain.
The surface must be clean, dry, porous and free from coatings, sealers, curing compounds, oil, grease, wax and other contaminants that may interfere with the reaction. Previously coated or sealed concrete must be stripped back to bare, porous concrete.
Always test the stain on a small, inconspicuous area before proceeding. Concrete composition, age, finishing method and surface condition can influence the final colour.
Apply Fortis Antique Blue Concrete Acid Stain evenly using a suitable acid-resistant sprayer, brush or applicator. Allow the stain to penetrate and react with the concrete. Natural variations in colour and appearance are expected and form part of the decorative effect.
Additional applications may be made where greater colour depth or variation is required.
After the reaction is complete, thoroughly neutralise and clean the surface to remove residue. Allow the concrete to dry completely before applying a suitable Fortis concrete sealer.

The concrete must be sufficiently porous to allow the acid stain to penetrate and react with the surface.
Remove dirt, grease, adhesives, coatings, sealers, wax and other contaminants before application. Tightly trowelled or burnished concrete may require mechanical preparation to open the surface.
Do not use hydrochloric or muriatic acid to prepare the concrete before acid staining.
Not suitable for sealed, coated or non-porous surfaces unless they are correctly prepared before application.

Will the colour look the same on every concrete surface?
No. Concrete composition, age, porosity and finishing method affect the final colour. Always complete a test area first.
Can Antique Blue Acid Stain be used outdoors?
Yes. It is suitable for properly prepared interior and exterior concrete. Exterior surfaces should be protected with a suitable Fortis concrete sealer.
Can I apply acid stain over sealed or painted concrete?
No. Coatings and sealers prevent the stain from reacting correctly. The surface must be prepared back to clean, porous concrete.
Does concrete acid stain peel or flake?
The stain reacts within the concrete rather than forming a surface coating, so the colour itself will not peel or flake.
Can I apply more than one application?
Yes. Additional applications can increase colour depth and variation. Test first to confirm the desired appearance.
Does acid-stained concrete need to be sealed?
Yes. After staining, neutralise and clean the surface, allow it to dry, then apply a suitable Fortis concrete sealer.
How old should new concrete be?
Concrete should be at least 14 days old before applying Fortis Concrete Acid Stain.
