FORTIS AD5405 is a D4 long open time, single-component moisture-curing polyurethane adhesive developed for timber bonding, laminating and industrial assembly.
The 100% solids, solvent-free formulation provides a 60-minute working time, allowing additional time for adhesive application, positioning and assembly of larger or more complex components. Typical clamp time is approximately 180 minutes under normal conditions.
AD5405 bonds a wide range of porous and compatible non-porous materials including hardwood, softwood, veneers, FRP, fibreglass and composite materials. Typical applications include furniture manufacture, cabinetry, joinery, panel assembly, composite lamination and general industrial fabrication.
The extended working time makes AD5405 particularly suitable where larger bonding areas, multiple components or more complex assemblies require additional time before clamping.
AD5405 develops a slight foaming action during moisture cure and provides excellent water and heat resistance. Once cured, the adhesive can be sanded, painted or stained.
AD5405 cures using moisture from the substrate or atmosphere. At least one bonding surface should contain sufficient moisture for effective cure. Very dry substrates may require light misting with water before assembly.
For best results, surfaces should be clean, correctly prepared and properly clamped or supported during the initial cure. Compatibility testing is recommended for coated surfaces, plastics and unfamiliar substrates.
Single-Component Moisture-Curing Polyurethane
FORTIS AD5405 is applied directly to one bonding surface. Apply approximately 100–200 g/m² depending on substrate porosity, surface condition and the materials being bonded.
AD5405 requires moisture to cure. Timber will normally contain sufficient natural moisture; however, very dry timber or other porous substrates may be lightly misted or wiped with water before adhesive application.
Apply the adhesive evenly and assemble components within the 60-minute working time. The extended working time allows additional time for adhesive application, component positioning and assembly of larger bonding areas.
Apply sufficient clamping pressure or support to maintain close contact between the bonding surfaces. Typical clamp time is approximately 180 minutes at 20°C and 65% relative humidity.
Temperature, humidity, substrate moisture, adhesive application rate and material type may influence working and cure times.
Always conduct a bonding trial when using coated surfaces, plastics, composites or unfamiliar substrates.

Surfaces must be clean and free from dust, oil, grease and other contaminants. Timber joints should provide close substrate-to-substrate contact for maximum bond strength.
AD5405 requires moisture to cure. Very dry porous substrates may be lightly misted or wiped with water to assist cure.
Compatibility testing is recommended when bonding coated surfaces, plastics, composites or unfamiliar materials.
AD5405 does not bond polyethylene or polypropylene.
