Fortis Sol-X Thinners

Xylene-based coating thinner and cleaning solvent for compatible epoxy and polyurethane coatings.

Information

FORTIS Sol-X is a xylene-based coating thinner and cleaning solvent designed for use with compatible Fortis epoxy and polyurethane coating systems.

When specified, Sol-X can be used to reduce coating viscosity and assist application and flow. The medium evaporation rate of xylene makes it suitable for applications where controlled solvent evaporation is required.

Sol-X is also an effective solvent for cleaning suitable application equipment, mixers and tools before coating material has cured.

Only add Sol-X to a coating where thinning is permitted by the relevant Fortis Technical Data Sheet. The type and amount of solvent can influence viscosity, film build, application characteristics and coating performance. Do not substitute alcohol-based thinners in Fortis epoxy or polyurethane systems where Sol-X is specified.

Industries

Construction Adhesives, Coatings & Waterproofing, Truck, Bus & RV, Automotive & Marine, Furniture & Woodworking

Product Application

Coating Thinning: Add Fortis Sol-X only where permitted by the relevant coating Technical Data Sheet and at the recommended addition rate. Mix thoroughly into the coating before application. Excessive thinning can reduce film build and affect coating performance.

Tool & Equipment Cleaning: Sol-X can be used to remove uncured compatible epoxy and polyurethane coating residues from suitable mixers, tools and application equipment. Cleaning should be completed before the coating cures.

Important: Do not use alcohol-based thinners as a substitute in Fortis epoxy or polyurethane coating systems where Sol-X is specified. Ensure adequate ventilation and follow the Sol-X Safety Data Sheet and required PPE precautions.

Surfaces

Sol-X is a strong aromatic solvent and may damage plastics, painted surfaces, protective coatings, inks and other solvent-sensitive materials. Always test compatibility on a small, inconspicuous area before use. Avoid prolonged contact or pooling on sensitive substrates.

FAQs

What is xylene thinner used for?

Xylene thinner is used with compatible solvent-based coatings to reduce viscosity and assist application and flow. It can also clean uncured coating material from suitable tools and equipment.

Can Sol-X be used with epoxy coatings?

Yes. Fortis Sol-X is suitable for compatible epoxy coatings where xylene thinning is permitted. Follow the relevant Fortis Technical Data Sheet for addition rates.

Can Sol-X be used with polyurethane coatings?

Sol-X can be used with compatible Fortis polyurethane coatings where specified. Do not assume every polyurethane coating can be thinned.

Can I use methylated spirits instead of Sol-X?

No. Do not substitute alcohol-based thinners in Fortis epoxy or polyurethane coating systems where Sol-X is specified.

Can Sol-X clean coating tools?

Yes. Sol-X can remove compatible uncured epoxy and polyurethane residues from suitable tools and equipment. Clean equipment before the coating cures.
