Technical Note #2 - Effect of Temperature

The use of Fortis coatings across the varied climates of Australia does provide some challenges. To achieve the best coating, it is always best to follow the product's application guidelines.

Temperature, humidity, airflow and film thickness impact drying times for both single and 2-Pack coatings. The recommended application window for 1‐Pack Moisture Curing Polyurethane is approximately 12‐35°C and 40‐80% relative humidity, with an optimum of 25°C and 60% relative humidity.

A significant drop of application temperature slows down the drying and curing process of the applied coating. Furthermore, winter temperatures below 12°C especially in the morning and late afternoon impact coating levelling.

Note: The temperature on the floor can be significantly lower than the surrounding air temperature and the temperature of coating material stored in a van overnight can be extremely low.

As such, depending on the temperature the coating will perform differently. It is best to work within the recommended application temperature. If you need to apply a coating under serving adverse conditions, please contact our technical support for advice.
