Fortis AD5105, AD5205 and AD5405 are single-component, moisture-curing polyurethane timber adhesives for woodworking, joinery, furniture manufacture and industrial assembly. All three provide D4 water resistance, but their different working and clamping times make them suitable for different production requirements.
Quick selection: Choose AD5105 for fast assembly, AD5205 for general woodworking or AD5405 for larger and more complex assemblies requiring additional positioning time.
| Specification | AD5105 | AD5205 | AD5405 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Working time | 10 minutes | 20 minutes | 40 minutes |
| Typical clamp time | 30 minutes | 60 minutes | 180 minutes |
| Adhesive technology | 1K polyurethane | 1K polyurethane | 1K polyurethane |
| Water resistance | D4 | D4 | D4 |
| Best suited to | Fast assembly | General woodworking | Complex assemblies |
Working and clamp times are indicative and depend on temperature, substrate moisture, timber species and application conditions. Refer to the relevant Fortis technical data sheet.
Fortis AD5105 is designed for fast timber assembly. With a 10-minute working time and approximately 30-minute clamp time, it is particularly suited to repetitive manufacturing processes where rapid production and efficient clamp turnover are important.
Typical applications: Furniture manufacture, cabinetry, joinery, doors, windows and general timber assembly.
Choose AD5105 when: Components can be prepared and assembled quickly, and production speed is the main consideration.
Fortis AD5205 provides a balance between working time and curing speed. Its 20-minute working time allows additional assembly flexibility, while the approximately 60-minute clamp time supports efficient workshop production.
Typical applications: Furniture, cabinetry, joinery, timber panels, doors, windows and general woodworking.
Choose AD5205 when: A versatile polyurethane timber adhesive is required for everyday woodworking and assembly.
Fortis AD5405 provides a 40-minute working time, allowing additional time for adhesive application, positioning and assembly of larger or more complex timber components.
Its typical clamp time is approximately 180 minutes, which should be considered when planning production schedules and press availability.
Typical applications: Larger timber assemblies, furniture, joinery, panel bonding and compatible composite applications.
Choose AD5405 when: Extended assembly time is required and a longer clamping period can be accommodated.
Working time is the period available for adhesive application and assembly before the adhesive becomes unsuitable for reliable bonding. Clamp time is the period components must remain under pressure or restraint to develop sufficient handling strength.
Choosing the fastest adhesive does not always result in the most efficient manufacturing process. The adhesive must provide sufficient time to apply, position and clamp all components correctly.

Timber surfaces should be clean, sound and free from dust, oil, grease and incompatible surface treatments. Close-fitting joints are important for achieving reliable bond strength.
Polyurethane adhesive expansion should not be relied upon to compensate for poorly fitted joints.
AD5105, AD5205 and AD5405 cure by reacting with moisture from the substrate or atmosphere. Timber normally contains sufficient natural moisture, but very dry substrates may require controlled moisture addition in accordance with the product instructions.
Excess moisture can accelerate curing and increase foaming, potentially affecting bond-line quality.
Typical polyurethane timber adhesive application rates are approximately 100–200 g/m², depending on substrate porosity, surface condition and bonding requirements. Confirm the specified rate for each product using its current technical data sheet.
Apply an even adhesive layer and ensure adequate wetting of the bonding surfaces.
Apply sufficient pressure to maintain close contact between the bonded surfaces throughout the required clamping period. Avoid excessive pressure that forces too much adhesive from the joint.
Clamp time does not represent full cure. Bonded assemblies should not be subjected to final service loads until sufficient bond strength has developed.
Higher temperatures and greater moisture availability generally accelerate polyurethane curing. Lower temperatures and dry conditions can extend working, clamping and curing times.
For production applications, validate adhesive performance under actual factory conditions.

AD5105, AD5205 and AD5405 are D4 water-resistant polyurethane adhesives. D4 describes resistance to specified moisture exposure conditions under EN 204. It does not automatically establish suitability for certified load-bearing structural timber applications.
For finger jointing, glue-laminated beams and other certified structural timber applications, explore the Fortis Structural Timber Adhesive range.
Structural adhesive selection must consider the applicable standard, product certification, timber species and approved manufacturing process.
The primary difference is working time and clamp time. AD5105 provides 10 minutes working time, AD5205 provides 20 minutes and AD5405 provides 40 minutes. All three are single-component, moisture-curing D4 polyurethane timber adhesives.
AD5105 is the fastest of the three, with an approximate clamp time of 30 minutes under the published reference conditions. Full cure requires additional time.
AD5205 is a practical general-purpose choice because its 20-minute working time provides assembly flexibility while maintaining a relatively short clamping period.
AD5405 is generally the preferred option when larger bonding areas or more complex assemblies require extended positioning time. It provides a 40-minute working time.
Yes. All three are suitable for many hardwood and softwood applications. Compatibility and bond performance should be verified for unfamiliar timber species, treatments and production conditions.
Moisture-curing polyurethane adhesives may develop some foaming as carbon dioxide is generated during the reaction. Correct moisture control, close-fitting joints and suitable clamping help maintain bond quality.
All three have D4 water-resistance classifications. However, D4 does not automatically establish suitability for continuous water immersion or every exterior exposure condition.
Potentially, where substrate compatibility and bond performance requirements are satisfied. However, changing adhesive grades changes the available working and clamp times. Production trials are recommended before substitution.
